Car Scheme

EDCCA Car Scheme

Need a lift? Call us on 01347 822598 and we’ll do our best to match you with a volunteer driver.

Our scheme is supported by volunteers using their own cars, who receive a mileage allowance. Passengers pay a set rate, agreed before each journey.

Who can use the scheme?
The service is open to anyone who is elderly, has a disability, is unwell, has special needs, or is unable to use other forms of public transport.

What journeys are eligible?
All journeys are welcome, including:

  • Shopping trips

  • Doctor or hospital appointments

  • Visits to friends

  • Hair appointments

Priority is given to healthcare appointments.

Do I have to pay?
Yes. Current charges are:

  • Minimum charge: £5 for a return journey. £20.00 per hospital journey.

How do I book a journey?
To book, contact the EDCCA Car Scheme Co-ordinator:

Please provide at least 48 hours’ notice when booking, more if possible. We’ll take your details and match you with a volunteer driver.

Please note, not all journeys can be made, they all depend on volunteer availability.

Can the volunteer wait or return later?
Yes. We can arrange for the driver to wait or return, with a typical waiting time of around 1 hour. Some flexibility is allowed for hospital appointments.

Need a wheelchair?
We have a lightweight wheelchair available that can fit in some cars — please mention this when booking.
