Car Scheme

The car scheme is currently operating a limited service. We hope to resume a full service from 2nd August 2021. Please contact us and we will try to help with hospital and medical appointments only at the moment

The Scheme is supported by volunteers using their own cars who are paid a mileage allowance. Passengers are charged a set rate agreed prior to each journey.

Who can use the scheme? The scheme is open to anyone who is elderly, ill, has a disability or special needs and those unable to access other forms of public transport.

What journey can I use the scheme for? All journeys are eligible – shopping trips, appointments at the doctors or hospital, journeys to visit friends, hair appointments. However, priority will be given to Health Care appointments.

Do I have to pay? Yes there is a charge for using this service.  At present a charge of 50p per mile is made with a minimum charge of £5 return and £3.75 single. This is paid directly to the volunteer driver. For regular journeys monthly invoices can be arranged but an additional 10% administration charge will be made for this.

How do I book my transport? In order to book a journey please call the EDCCA Car Scheme Co-ordinator, on 01347 822598, or email at or call in at the EDCCA office. We will take details of your transport request and match you up with a volunteer driver. Please give at least 48 hours notice of your request, more if possible.

Will the volunteer wait or return later? We can arrange either but we ask for a waiting time of around 1 hour, with some flexibility being made for hospital appointments. The volunteer will even accompany you into your appointment if required and requested.

Can I be accompanied? You may take a partner or friend with you (at no extra charge) on your journey, but please advise us when requesting transport.

Need a Wheelchair? We have a lightweight wheelchair which some cars can accommodate.
